Are you an e-book Skeptic?
Check out this new web site created by SIBA Bookseller Tom Campbell of The Regulator Bookshop a.k.a The e-book Skeptic, http://www.ebookskeptic.net, which poses the question: When it comes to reading, is digital dumber? The site answers the question with abstracts and results from research published in peer-reviewed academic journals.
The studies referenced on the ebookskeptic compare reading from a screen vs. reading from paper in the areas of comprehension, understanding, and longer-term memory. In other words, they compare how well people learn from reading from these two media.
The studies are unanimous in the verdict that people learn better when reading from paper—they remember more of what they have read, and they understand it at a deeper level.
Take a look at ebookskeptic.net and, if you feel so inclined, pass along news of the site to other folks in the book industry and in the media. The site adds an aspect to the e-book debate that has not yet been widely discussed.
